Happy New Year!

After a busy first year in production, we are taking advantage of the winter months to rest, recharge, and begin planning for the growing season ahead. Many thanks to those of you who have followed and supported us from the beginning. And welcome to those who have recently signed up for our newsletter! We aim to communicate what’s happening on the farm, share what’s in season, offer recipes, and much more. In addition, you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@bassrootfarm).

Spring Planning

Anticipating another season of limited inventory from various seed companies, we placed our 2022 order in December. Fortunately, we were able to purchase just about everything we hope to grow this year. We are excited to expand our offerings this season and look forward to sharing those new additions with you!

Now our crop planning is in full gear. We use a software program called Tend to manage many aspects of our operation. Whether it’s starting seeds in the nursery, preparing beds for planting, weeding, applying amendments, or harvesting, Tend helps us stay on track with a daily list of tasks. But it only works if we stay on top of entering and retrieving data. Fortunately, it’s a cloud-based application that can be accessed using any connected device. So we will be able to enter real time data in the field.

2022 CSA Accepting New Members!

We are very excited to announce the start of our CSA program this year. CSA stands for “community supported agriculture” in which members of the community purchase shares in the farm. In return, members receive a weekly box of fresh vegetables throughout the growing season (May-November). This model has been used by many small farms to ensure their viability and vitality in providing local communities fresh, nutrient-dense produce. It also provides members a direct connection to the farmer, thereby promoting an understanding of the growing practices involved. Additional benefits of participating in our CSA include:

  • Exposure to a wide variety of vegetables
  • Opportunity to learn new recipes and approaches to food preparation
  • Sharing in the surplus of a bountiful harvest
  • Option to add eggs
  • Flexible share options
  • Visits to the farm
If you are interested in learning more about this program, please click the CSA Information button below. Because this is our first CSA, we have a limited number of shares available. We look forward to the opportunity to be your farmers!
