Spring Update. The spring growing season is going very well this year, with a nice mix of sunny, warm days with sufficient rain. We are right on schedule with getting crops into the ground. The tomatoes are in the hoop house, showing blossoms and small green fruit! Last week, we planted half of our peppers, all the summer squash, and lot of beets. Our potato crop is showing emergence of green foliage, and we are excited about some of our broccoli plants showing heads. Over the next few weeks, we’ll plant our large onions, melons, sweet potatoes, field tomatoes, green beans, and winter squash.

On Saturday, May 18th, we held our first annual vegetable/herb plant sale. Thank you to all of you who came out to support us. We hope you have great success with your gardens this year!

New Team Member. A few weeks ago, we welcomed Nick Niffin to the farm for some short-term employment. Nick came from Copper Harbor, MI where he worked on Lake Effect Farm for three seasons. He enjoys being outdoors, particularly in the UP and on Isle Royale, where he he will live this summer working for the National Park Service. He has been an enormous help with our daily tasks, projects, and providing tips on how to improve our farming operation. We will miss him when he heads North!
Help Wanted! We are looking to hire someone part-time (3 days per week, 7 hours/day). Our team member will help in all aspects of the farm including seed starting/propogation, bed prep, planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, harvesting, washing and packing. No gardening or farming experience is necessary (but helpful), we will teach you! A desire to work outdoors is a must. Team members earn $15/hour and a share of produce each week. CSA Update. Our full season CSA is entering its sixth week. Shares can be picked up at the farm, in Fenton (Walmart parking lot near Panera Bread) and in Milford (Ace Hardware parking lot). CSA Share registration will close June 5th.
